Sam Cooke, the most important soul singer in history, and one of the most influential Black Americans of the 20th century; died under mysterious circumstances in 1964. Making matters more suspicious, at the time of his death, Cooke began using his extensive popularity and influence to bring attention to the burgeoning civil rights movement.
